Class Observation

In Vietnam, textbook-based learning remains a popular teaching style. Textbooks are the key resource for establishing the curriculum, delivering material, and guiding lesson planning. While this technique provides structure and regularity, it may occasionally hinder student participation and critical thinking. Teachers sometimes rely extensively on textbooks, resulting in a teacher-centered classroom in which pupils passively absorb material.
While attempts have been made to encourage new student-centered and participatory teaching approaches, such as project-based learning and inquiry-based learning, the old textbook-based approach remains. This might lead to a lack of adaptability and responsiveness to particular student demands. Additionally, textbook quality varies, with some missing intriguing content and practical
exercises.

DEMO TEACHING

GRADE 8S

Civic Education in Grade 8, often taught through textbook-based learning, aims to instill in students a sense of civic responsibility, national identity, and global citizenship. While textbooks provide a structured framework and a wealth of information, they can sometimes limit the depth and breadth of learning.
To enhance the effectiveness of Civic Education, it is crucial to supplement textbook content with real-world examples, current events, and interactive activities.
By engaging students in discussions, debates, and simulations, educators can foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a passion for civic engagement. Moreover, integrating technology into the classroom can provide access to diverse perspectives and multimedia resources, making the learning experience more dynamic and relevant. Ultimately, a balanced approach that combines textbook-based learning with experiential and inquiry-based methods can empower young learners to become informed, active, and responsible citizens.

LESSON 3: HARD WORK AND CREATION

ECONOMICS AND LEGAL EDUCATION CLASS

In a Grade 10 classroom setting, a discussion on Economics and Legal Education, primarily based on textbook, can delve innto various topics. Students can explore fundamental economic concepts such as supply and demand, market structures, and economic systems. They can analyze real-world examples to understand how these concepts impact their daily lives. Additionally, the discussion can delve inyo
legal principles, including contract law, property law, and consumer rights. By examining case studies and legal precedents, students can develop critical thinking skills and learn to apply legal knowledge to real-world situations. To foster engagement, teachers can use a variety of teaching methods,
such as debates and group discussions. By combining textbook knowledge with practical applications, students gain a comprehensive understanding of Economics and Legal Education and become informed citizens.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

The first few weeks of my pre-service teaching experience were both exciting and intimidating. As I entered the classroom, I was welcomed with a varied group of children, each with their own distinct personalities and learning methods. While the initial excitement of engaging with young brains was obvious, I quickly realized there was a considerable language barrier between us. Communicating effectively proved to be an impossible challenge. Simple instructions often led to misunderstandings, and the frustration was evident on both sides. Students eager to learn struggled to understand my accent and foreign words. As a result, I found myself becoming more frustrated as I attempted to express ideas that were so simple to me. However, I persisted, adjusting my teaching methods to meet their language demands. I slowed down my voice, used visual aids, and relied on gestures to support what I said. As the days went, I noticed a subtle shift in our interactions. Recognizing my efforts, the pupils became more engaged and enthusiastic.

My second week of student teaching was a blur of problems and successes. I was assigned to a diverse class, and the language barrier proved to be a big challenge. While some pupils spoke English fluently, others failed to grasp even simple instructions. I found myself continually adjusting my teaching technique, employing visual aids and gestures to convey my message. Despite the language barrier, I was committed to connect with the children I have. I learned their names, became interested in their activities, and embraced their cultural differences. By the end of the week, I had made some progress, but there was still a long way to go.

By the last day of my student teaching, I had grown significantly as an educator. I had learned to be patient, flexible, and creative in the face of adversity. I had also developed a deep appreciation for the challenges and rewards of teaching. While I still had much to learn, I felt confident in my ability to make a positive impact on my students' lives.
